The Tended Mind is an independent educational initiative developing an emotional intelligence curriculum for schools, from the Early Years through Pre-University. Our framework combines established international research, including CASEL's core competencies and Yale's RULER approach, with a Tamil ethical tradition over two thousand years old.
Not yet - and we think it's important to be transparent about that. The Tended Mind is an independent educational initiative currently developing its curriculum, publications and resources. While we're still growing, we're committed to producing work that is thoughtful, evidence-informed and ready to support schools.
Long before modern psychology named concepts like empathy and emotional regulation, Tamil poets and philosophers had already written them into verse, in texts like the Thirukkural and the Purananuru, over two thousand years ago. We believe this tradition offers something genuinely valuable, not as decoration, but as a second, older foundation alongside contemporary research.
